No Warning Farm

Essentials

A package arrived from my mom over the weekend. She had told me it was coming and I correctly guessed it would be some kind of "housewarming" gift for the Airstream we'll be parking on the Farm next week. My mom is someone who scours estate sales and discount stores for things she does not need but that are too good to pass by. So when I unpacked the parcel, I suspected that she had cleaned out her oversupply of bargains, until I saw a note around the blue-handled cutlery: "Your dad bought these in Paris. If you don't want them, I'll take them back on my next visit." And the steak knives were marked with the name of famed French culinary store E. Dehillerin. I had been making a list of kitchen essentials when this package arrived and I'm not sure that the oyster knife and the Mexican lime zester would have qualified as must haves. Then again, the Farm is near the Hood Canal, prime oyster harvesting territory, and Margaritas are sure to appear at one of our beach dinners.

Delighted to discover you are posting again, though I mourn the loss of the older tales from the farm and the frat house. Wishing you energy and humor as Spring ’18 approaches.

I’m in a much happier and healthier place now. Those stories might have been entertaining, but life was exhausting.
